This, I was just going to be a machinist or welder or something, but wound up getting a good scholarship. Now I'm a full-time stress engineer wrapping up a Master's.

>apply to random doctoral programs after deadlines cause i got laid off from a job i didnt like
>get accepted to mid tier (top 50, i guess right outside top 25?) state school CS department by family members
>worried about having a good social life and work/life balance cause my Ph.D student friends all seem to work all the time, but they also seem to spend their time reading random papers or auditing classes that have no relationship to their actual research projects or eventual theses

Is analysis at the level of baby rudin & linear algebra from incel friedberg spence enough to start studying functional analysis?

>think all the elementary stuff like conic sections, arithmetic, etc. is boring and simplistic, wanna get to the abstract stuff
>learn basic undergrad pure math (analysis, algebra, foundations stuff)
>realize that there's nothing obvious or simplistic about entry-level math

I'm >>7570801 and >>7570757, and that's the only reasonable offer I've had after a year of looking, and even that might fall through. It's rough out there if you don't know anyone in the industry; being qualified for the job is just a basic requirement, not a guarantee of success.
