Does anyone on /sci/ have experience with mass spectrometers? I work in a lab, and one of our units is broken. I have no idea how to fix it, but I have been tasked with doing so.

How can you ever be so sure about that ?

Just because we have the insight we`ll never understand ultimate reality and the origin of it. Doesn`t mean the is no reason to it.

Just like claiming the is certainly no creator of this universe requeres as much assumptions as claiming there is.

In fact no single word, no logic, no abstraction can be linked with ultimate reality.

Mysticism is the pursuit of awareness of an ultimate reality. In order to answer a most fundemental question.

Why rely on mysticism then if it is impossible?

You can compare it with a communist revolution, it is an everlasting pursuet to a clean communist state but you know in practice it is impossible to get at that point.

It`s the intentions that matter, not the actual outcome.

That`s how our current system we`re all so proud of works friend.

We don`t have to set high standards.

If the only thing that matters is how much property we have and "earn", we have some room for being lax on education and working levels.
We will still be relatively succesfull(western defenition of succes) compared to other country`s.

Because that`s how our current social and economical system works.

ruthless people will have an advantage over people who reconsidder thier needs and moral values.

These are the same people thet will collapse a communist or socialist state.

thats why any system, capitalism and communism without some form of ethic judgement on every individual (besides law) is doomed to fail.

I'm afraid you are wrong here. I am currently a Junior at Harvard concentrating in physics and I have taken several classes at MIT. While the work is not easy, I have plenty of time for other activities and just plain fun.

The major advantage of going to a school like Harvard or MIT is the schools' resources - billions of dollars means tens of millions of books and Nobel Prize-winning professors (plus funding for undergrad RA positions, if you like research)
