I'm an atmospheric physics major, not sure exactly how much overlap there is, but I they must have a lot in common.

So far the first couple years have just been the same as a plain old physics degree with some physical geography thrown on top. I have no idea in regards to job prospects, but that's not really top priority for me since I don't have any debt and just like studying something that interests me.
