The guy posting as EK nowadays is not the original EK, who was a female (poster admits being female, has to revert to anon due to abuse- epic win guise!).

Nothing to see here.

When you cry you are trying to elicit pity. You are trying to make people feel sorry for you. Crying is a sign of helplessness.

Traditionally (and evolutionarily, (the two tend to go hand in hand a lot)) men were much more dominant than women.
When you're one of the more socially dominant in the group (as the adult males would have been), you've no-one to look up to. Nobody does your shit for you. You do it yourself. Sure, you can request help off friends and allies, but only as an equal.

A male who presumeably wants to mate, has to show emotional strength and dependability, if he wants any sort of social status at all. He's the one who needs to be taking care of other people, not demanding care for himself.

Modern civilisation makes it more acceptable for adult men to cry, but most just don't ever feel like it, only in truly exceptional circumstances (unless of course you count ficticious exceptional scenarios in books/movies/baww threads).

In pre-agricultural times it probably would have also been acceptable for adult men to cry at exceptional times, but only very sparingly. Rare crying= sign of humanity and empathy. More frequent crying= sign of weakness.

btw, i wonder what percentage of men who cry at someone's death are believers vs firm atheists?
Could it be that many such people are subconciously trying to elicit pity from god (the ultimate alpha figure to whom people trust to take care of them when they themselves fail)?
