Greetings, /sci/entists

I have a question: Is Mars colonization possible in the real world?

Do you think it would ever be theoretically possible to push Mars' orbit closer to the sun?

Can somebody explain to me why everyone seems to think that a manned mission to Mars is a good idea?

I mean, what point would it serve? We already know pretty much everything worth knowing about Mars, and what little is left to learn we could just as easily gain from sending probes. It's a cold rock covered in rust, with no liquid water, and it's really far away. And even if it has nanobacteria somewhere, big fucking whoop. Nobody gives a shit about microorganisms outside of a tiny group of exobiologists. So tell me /sci/, why would it be better to spend tens of trillions of dollars going to Mars rather than something else science related that might actually produce useful discoveries?
