because it's not. literally just a years long bunch of propaganda (likely russian) to destabilize the power of the western world and democracies all over. it sounds tinfoil and it sounds crazy but it's fucking true. this needed to happen because otherwise these conservative leaders would not have come into power in order to help russia gain power. a resurgence in religion via media manipulation is literally the only way that conservative (read: facist) ideology could have survived the early 2000s with the widespread information available online. the natural consequence of having all of that available information would be a lean to the left and you saw that with all the edgelord atheists and how fucking left and anarchist the politics were online for years. It was the "underground, silent majority" type of ideology of the youth and that pattern was just copied and pasted into religious and racist rhetoric that keys into older values (be racist, be sexist, fear others) that align with the previous generation before them. and people identified with it because it was happening on 4chan and it took the guise of somehow being that same ( ( silent majority ) ) when it really was propaganda to resurge the power of religion in order to put conservative facists in power to enable russia. and it worked.
