>>Government won't fund unmanned space exploration.
COUNTEREXAMPLE: Curiosity rover on Mars right now.

When was the last time we had a human mission beyond low Earth orbit?

And Curiosity actually got people excited about planetary science.

>>Robots are created by Electrical engineers
nope, most robots are created by mechanical engineers. Mechanical engineers make the robot and often the algorithms to control it and electrical engineers make the control system.

Don't know if there are too many newfags on here for me to ask this, but what's the weirdest citation you've ever come across when reading white papers?

Also, you probably won't be able to beat mine, someone cited the Terminator 2 movie, though to be fair it was a paper on reconfigurable robots.

Let's discuss the rights of artificial people, /sci/.

Let's say, for the sake of discussion, someone invents a program capable of beating the Turing Test within the next two decades and releases it to the mass market. Since we all seem to know the internet pretty intimately, we can probably safely predict that either Japan or the US will release sexual themed AI's to serve as virtual girlfriends for neckbeards (And...coochbeards? Hambeasts? IDK, what do you call the female equivalent of a neckbeard) the world over.

However, if the AI is advanced enough to simulate desire and concious thought, what happens if your virtual girlfriend gets a headache, or objects to something? What happens when she realizes that you could kill her with the touch of a button? Can you realistically simulate the human condition without including fear, jealousy, discontent, hatred, you know, all of the things that most people would buy a virtual girlfriend to avoid?

If science has proven anything, it's that true understanding is limited only by someone's insistence that something is impossible.
