Wouldn't birth defects be prominent at birth and not later in life?

I'm studying for a discrete test tomorrow, and I'm having trouble with this seemingly simple problem:

Prove by induction: For all n >= 1, 9n -1 is divisible by 8.

We will argue by induction(1). We first note that for n=1, this just says that 8 | 8 which is clearly true.

Now, assume that the result holds for some integer k. So, 8 | 9^(k -1), and hence
9^k -1 = 8t for some integer t.

We claim that the result is true for the next larger integer, k+1. That is, we claim that

8 | 9^(k+1) -1. Once we show this we will be finished.

But, 9^(k+1) -1 = 9( 9^k -1 ) + 8 = 9( 8t ) + 8 = 8( 9t +1 ) and so 9^(k+1) -1 is a multiple of 8, and so 8 | 9^(k+1) -1. Thus our result follows by induction.

where did the 8 come from in this part: 9( 9^k -1 ) + 8 of the proof?

I understand that 9^k-1 is equal to 8 times some integer, but why did they just randomly add 8 to the end of that step of the proof?

I use the start-up custimization app, and have the windows loge come on for 5 seconds during power-up. is there a way I can have cabrijr launch after that while skipping the cabrijr "press a key" screen? Is it bad to pop pimples and abscesses? All they contain is infected blood and dead leukocytes along with dead bacteria. Wouldn't getting that out of your skin be beneficial?

is there anyway to explain/predict where a car's first jolt will be after shooting certain tires? for this general question with many factors lets assume rear wheel drive driving straight and has power steering, average four-door sedan and your using a 9mm shots to the bottom area of the tire as the car is moving.
