Why happens to our sense of consciousness when we die?

Is there quantum entanglement in the mind or something?
Do we realize consciousness in another parallel universe?

If there is an afterlife or something related to consciousness that isn't observable from our plane or existance, wouldn't you be able to hypothetically bioengineer humans to harness the biological process that involves emerging of the consciousness to interact with that hypotherical plane of existance? If the process that involves associating a conscousness/soul to a human body can be triggered within our 3 dimensional plane of existance with our physical rules, wouldn't we be able to replicate that process and interact with the "afterlife" or whatever is related to being sentient or conscious. Apologies for my uneducated writing and poor way of articulating myself.
