also i feel inclined to stress that iq testing in general is not a "be all end all" metric of human intelligence, nor was it meant to be. it is simply a cognitive ranking system which also happens to correlate with things you would naturally expect from people of the corresponding cognitive ranks. it was designed to test how retarded, not how smart, a subject was because quantifying lower forms of cognition is actually surprisingly objective. it just so happened that these types of problems could also rank people who weren't retarded, so researchers did a lot more testing and began coming up with ways to scale it towards the other end of the distribution.
