most overrated mathematician of all time

he had exceptional ability in a sort of romantic pre-gromov sense

but he never really made big advances in mathematics. Alot of what he did was rediscovering things, albeit in creative ways

the lack of a formal mathematical education meant he had many gaps in his thinking

Which deceased mathematician would make the greatest contributions to modern mathematics if they were magically resurrected and allowed to study all of the discoveries that were made after their death?

>Archimedes
>Leibniz
>Euler
>Gauss
>Ramanujan

Tfw, you'll never be the autodidactic Ramanujan was -- even given the vast internet resources of 2017 and libraries/universities full of books. How incredible was it that Ramanujan even happened. Miraculous?

Does anyone have any idea what Carr (the guy who wrote the Ramanujan book) is talking about and/or why it works?
He has an example with 3x^5-10x^3+15x+8 and x^5-2x^4-6x^3+4x^2+13x+6, but it's unhelpful.

Highest Common Factor
Rule.--To find the highest common factor of two expressions--Divide the one which is of the highest dimension by the other, rejecting first any factor of either expression which is not also a factor o the other. Operate in the same manner upon the remainder and the divisor, and continue the process until there is no remainder. The last divisor will be the highest common factor required.

Have you ever lost your interest in science, how have you regained it?

What motivates you the most to study?
