I'm torn between being disappointed we didn't let a more moderate republican in back then, and glad we got an obvious buffoon that will hopefully fuck up so badly the republicans never recover.

I would add a caution that "better" is entirely subjective.
Plenty of "Social Darwinists" would see all progress of civilization as bad.
