Most anime is not tranime, but most modern anime fans have god awful taste. Anime never recovered from Japan's economic stagnation in the 90s, to which the anime industry responded by cutting costs and making "safe" bets by pandering to base anime fandom instead of experimenting with the genre and trying to make anime for a broader audience of well adjusted adults. This problem has gotten worse with time, to the point where today most anime is designed to sell body pillows and other creepy merch to weird lonely men (e.g. the userbase of /a/)

If present anime trends continue, we're never going to get true space kino like Royal Space Force again. Even Planetes was nearly 20 years. The Japanese animation industry may as well be dead.
