good evening people, I'm doing some programming in OpenGL (JOGL to be specific) and need some advice.

I'm rendering multiple objects on my screen at the same time, and the x coordinates i'm rendering them at are chosen at random, so I figuring out how to prevent overlap by doing some form of collision detection. I'm thinking i can check the distance between each x-coord of the ones i've chosen to render, and if it is less than 1 ( the biggest width of any object ) then remove those coords and try to regen them, and keep checking.
