Why do anthropologists insist on making neanderthals look human?

How many times have you heard "If one of these were alive today, you wouldn't recognize them on the street."

Neanderthals were apex predators who sometimes went on all fours to run extraordinarily fast, were probably completely covered in hair, and could collapse a human ribcage with a single blow.

Why does the mainstream scientific community accept that they just look extremely semitic? There's no evidence they even had humanoid noses.

I never thought about variances between africans and eurasians when it came to the introduction of neanderthal genes. neanderthal remains havn't been found outside of europe, have they?
