Is there anyone here who either isn't working on a science/math degree or is working on a meme degree like Computer Science? Are you learning math/science on your own? Have you been successful with that? Do you think it's worth studying these subjects for their own sake, as a hobby? Discuss.

Hi, /sci/ I'm looking for a book and I can't find it using all of my usual sources:

Looking for Chemistry: The Molecular Nature of Matter and Change (6th Edition) by Silberberg and the solutions manual. I've scoured every part of the internet and cannot find it.

So, /sci/... where do you find textbooks online? All my links from last year are dead because of the megaupload shenanigans.

Alright /sci/ these have always been useful, so lets have a textbook thread.
Try to keep it to textbooks that can't be found in the sticky, so just state what you have and what you need.

I want to learn mathematics.

How many hours must I sleep on top of the textbook to gain its knowledge?

Which textbook would gain the best results?

Hey /sci/,
I'm currently in my last year of school before moving up to university, I want to study Engineering, but my math is pretty shit.
I'm currently sitting on C+ and Bs, however, all my other subjects, including my sciences are A level. The problem is that I genuinely hate math (screw you Australian education system) and it drains me emotionally, however, if something interests me I'll pursue it to the ends of the earth.

I love science and technology, but I feel that engineering calls to me; I relish the challenge of being given a real-world problem and finding a solution for it.

How fucked am I with shitty math scores? I'm sure I can enroll, but will my lack of previous knowledge fuck me up or will the content get more interesting/applicable and motivate me forward?

/sci/ I was wondering, is there any difference between the US version and the international version of a textbook? And are the end of the chapter problems the same too?

Hey /sci/, I originally posted this in /lit/, but they told me you would be more useful here. I am going to major in Neuroscience as a freshman in the fall, and I was hoping you could suggest some good books to help prepare for college (and eventually grad school - going to get a ph.d afterwards). I already read The Idea Factory: Learning to think at MIT, and it was amazing, but now I am looking for some more books like that. Thank you!

Does anyone here buy their textbooks online? If so, where from?

I'm from Canada, and I usually buy my books from Craigslist or from the uni bookstore. I have a credit card now, so I'm going to try to buy my books online to save some money.

Anyone recommend some sites?

How do you guys go about getting your textbooks for college? I'm transferring from a university of 1,000 students to one with over 30,000 and not sure whether I should buy textbooks from students (most are an edition behind) or rent textbooks from the bookstore or buy used from the bookstore. I tried searching for the textbooks online to find torrents but all I found was older editions.

Hi, can you recommend me any textbooks, which are used in basic university courses of:

a) Logic
b) Philosophy
c) Non-verbal communication (I have heard about "Joe Navarro - What every BODY is saying: an ex-FBI agent's guide to speed reading people", but it's unfortunately unavailable here)
d) whatever interesting, not strictly necessary to be academic stuff

It should be something like Mankiw for basic economics, i.e. the most fundamental literature source [read: mainstream] for a particular studying field, because I do not live in English speaking country and thus it won't be easy to get those books in regular library. On the other hand I definitely want to read something in English. Thanks a lot!

sorry if this is the wrong forum but I don't know where else to ask since /adv/ is too busy discussing how ronery they are to help.

I'm going to study biology at a university but they are on a trimester system (which I think is the same thing as quarters).

How is that different from the semester system? Is it harder or what?

m registering for classes, i will be a full time student.

I have a choice between taking intro to biology or intro to physics as a lab science. I need 8 science credits, so I can take intro to biology, then biology 1, or i can take intro to physics, and physics 1, or i can take intro to biology, and intro to physics to fulfill my 8 credits.

My major is pretty unrelated. (Economics)
Gunning for graduate school after i earn my bachelors. Maintaining a high gpa is absolutely critical and priority.

Which science path should I take?

/sci/ I need to find out where I can possibly find some textbooks for free, or at least dirt cheap. I have checked several torrents without any luck, so I was hoping you guys could help. Specifically, I am looking for:

Chemistry - Zumdahl - 8th Ed (Study Guide would be nice too)
Physics for Scientists and Engineers - Giancoli - 1st Ed
Civil Drafting Technology - Madsen - 7th Ed

PDFs are preferred, but I was just hoping that yall had some tricks to getting around paying for these expensive books that you would be willing to share!

Basically, I am shit broke and need to not pay $500+ for these. Really, I cant afford more than $100, which I realize is asking a lot, but that's just the situation I am in. My financial aid is on hold ATM, so I need to figure out wut do?

If anyone has old hard copies of these, I would be interested.

Is this a good idea? Any advice from math majors.

/sci/ I Just experienced the bullshit that is college textbooks.

My professor explicitly told me it would only be $70. I had to wait till today like a week and a half after class started to get it cause I'm poor and now come to find out it will be $236 new with no used available. At this point I'd be asking for torrent links if it wasn't for the fact the books come with a online pass for a site we do all the stuff we get graded on.

Textbook rage general.
