Went to a top UK university.

Got 45% in the second year (3rd class), had to resit 5/7 modules.

Got 89% in the final year. Got a first class honours degree. Worked for a month. How does this make you feel?

Science degrees are so much easier than Arts/humanities. In my country, over 70% is a 1st class, 60-69.99% is a 2:1. As long as you know your facts and your methods, it is VERY easy to get a ridiculously high grade in math/physics exams. There is no skill or argument involved other than regurgitating what you've memorised.

Now consider philosophy or history for example. You need to critique, argue and analyse texts. It is extremely hard to get a first, you have to research for hours, reading books and looking at references and argue your point thoroughly. Getting above 80% in an exam is basically impossible, while above 70 is extremely hard. Maths, physics, chemistry, etc is just a case of memorising your lecture notes.

If you've got a decent memory you can get a first in any science degree. Yes I'm bitter.

I have a philosophy professor that psised me off
He claims that Atheists cannot be happy because they don't have "anything to look forward to after death," I say "I'm happy there's more space for others to live after I'm dead." He says "That's not happiness, you're just content."
I figured this was the closest to a /phl/ board, so what's your take on it?

Studying Pure maths.

>What's the point of it? Like what's it used for??

Just think of it like art.
