If you think you are dumb for not knowing about things you have never done anything with, then the dumb part is this belief instead of your ignorance of that stuff. Occasionally helping an energy engineer out with his stuff has lead me to a similar position where I can only bow my head in shame and tell him I have no idea what is going on. Two separate fields, and some branches are pretty far from any sort of engineering (except maybe functional programming & stuff which I know nothing about), like >>11780592 said. No need to worry.

You idiot, it's not about achieving something or not, it's about putting up a fight, no matter the circumstances, no matter if you win or lose in the end, if you keep fighting that's enough. Victory is merely a detail, humans live not by achieving victory every single time, but by doing their hardest, by fighting their hardest, then even if they lose in the end they'll still lose with no regrets because they know they did the best they could and this feeling of trying no matter what is what matters, not victory or defeat.

I think I'll try to get something done before my talk with my supervisor, and be prepared to admit I have nothing, should that be the case. Then I'll take the weekend off to recharge my batteries a bit. No stopping now. I can do it.
