The universe having 0 total energy is a pretty trivial calculation that any grad studnet can do. But since you faggots insist on a source.

International Journal of Theoretical Physics
November 2009, Volume 48, Issue 11, pp 3278-3286: "On the Zero-Energy Universe"

Also, here is a great video explaining it all:

Anyone know a thing or two about the Ebola virus? writing up an assignment and was wondering if /sci/ knew anything about viruses.

Yes, i am perfectly able to google information, however i was thinking that someone here might be able to give me a more in-depth idea of what Ebola is/does. Why do those plebs in africa get ebola and other cray cray viruses but here in 1st world we dont?

Why don't girls like science or math?

I mean seriously, what makes them less able to into intelligence?

I swore I'd never have to ask help on here.
But please, can someone explain?
I'm doing my science degree and math was never my strongpoint in school, our teacher wasn't a good communicator. So I really am trying to work everything out myself, and have been doing quite well so far. Here's the problem

Simplify by using distributive property.

This accelerated ochem and lab is raping my shit, I need to get as much study time as I can.

I am not a mod
But I wish to lay some ground rules out for the high/middle schoolers let out this summer.

1. If you have a question about personal learning, consult the sticky, if you are willing to put work in to personal learning, you'd better be willing to click a link.

2. /sci/ is not for your qualia/physchology fantasy theories

3. you have to talk really really really formal yo (you don't actually have to talk very formal, in fact, if you fuck up talking formally, you, sound, like, more of an idiot.)

4. If you have to question whether your post should be on /sci/ post it on /x/

5. If your post includes the words "feel" or "emotion" post on /lit/ or /a/ or something

6. if your question can be answered on wolframaplha.com post it there.

7. humor, shenanigans and fun is not allowed, and neither is irony (see 3)

8.finally, read the fucking title of the board, if your post doesn't pertain to that, then post somewhere else.

>top of class in math
>get asked to tutor
>sophomore girl in BA program needs to pass some trig for her major (don't ask me why)
>she thought I would look like a nerd
>I don't (I still am though)
>says to me "Oh geez great, I thought you were the smartest in your class"

Just because I am not visually a nerd, I'm not Asian and I'm not a fucking aspie, she thought there was no way for me to be smart.

Honestly fuck Big Bang Theory.

hey /sci/, i'll be taking the sat next sunday (i know its a bit cliche, but yes im an 18 yo senior) so in preparation i took a practice sat recently and got a 640 in both math and reading (the writing part was estimated at 520 based on a self scored essay). I want to get into a university with a good science and math program, do you guys think this is good enough of a score?

Guess I'm hitting the bars tonight, /sci.

Chemfag here, need some 1H NMR help. I'm looking at my NMR for an unknown from lab. Three major peaks with relative integrals of 22.55 : 35.91 : 35.97. Then there are two smaller singlets with relative integrals of 2.10 and 3.46. I know I'm not dealing with some huge compound where there could be this kind of disparity in relative integrals. Is it safe to ignore these peaks? What could have caused them?

So in a beaker there is 1 mol H3PO4, 1 mol NaH2PO4, 1 mol Na2HPO4, and water to dissolve everything. The volume is 10L. How much Na3PO4 has to be added for a pH of 8?
