Electives in an area of interest (e.g., remote sensing, paleontology, geochemistry, geophysics). By this time, you will have at least a general idea of the subdisciplines that you find interesting.

/sci/,
Is it possible to predict earthquakes? Have any earthquakes been successfully predicted in the past? Should the scientific community pursue earthquake prediction?
Many natural disasters can be seemingly mitigated through forecasts, but earthquakes always seem to fuck people's shit up without warning.
In theory, couldn't we use earthquake forecasts to issue evacuations and save lives? Why hasn't this been done yet?
