Athletes do know "science" and "maths", but they can't explain it to you in words. When they execute free kicks (I'm taking football as an example because of Messi picture), they know how to kick the ball, and where to kick the ball, how much force they need to apply and what will happen to the trajectory of the ball. The outcome is almost perfect to the execution of a good footballer. But if you ask them what the fuck has happened, they won't show you a mathematical equation.
I don't know how this answers your question but take it as you will, in return have a picture of a star surfing some plasma.

Just look at that star, surfing on a river of plasma.
