Honestly, its the denial of race and gender realism.

When the large institutions decided to pretend biological race and gender weren't a thing, it left the door wide open for people to mistrust everything else. If they had come clean on that one (albeit society destroying) fact then we wouldn't be up to our necks in science denial.
