English major here. I love my degree, sure it didn't get me jobs but school is not simply for finding a job. Go to a trade school if all you want is a job. In about a month you could be driving a truck and earning money during the time Engineers and Scientists are wasting spending money in school. Or better yet start a business and work for yourself, I guarantee you'll be wealthier than if you spend your days sitting in a cubical designing pieces of a car and for some people the thought of doing so is abhorrent.

If you just want to 'benefit' humanity the list is equally pretentious because the value of a writer can far outweigh the value of a scientist. I guarantee you that Karl Marx has done more to shape the world than Albert Einstein despite Einstein's theory of relativity being used to develop the atomic bomb. After all if Einstein hadn't developed his theory of relativity someone else would have but Karl Marx cannot be replaced.

I see it as a bunch of high school students starting out in college and desiring to feel superior and thinking the best way of doing so is to study a subject that's 'difficult' and 'intellectual' while idiots get worthless degrees like literature and history.

I also guarantee you that my father who has an undergraduate degree in physics and a doctorate in MUSIC is far more intelligent than anyone I've seen posted on this board. He simply decided that despite the years he spent at JPL designing instruments for the space program that it wasn't fulfilling and he went back to school to do something he loved.

Ignore the list, people here argue over it constantly. It makes them feel superior, whatever.
