Hey /sci/, going into my second year of Biology, decided it'd help to get a subscription to a relevant journal, but I don't know which. I've taken modules as related to human biology and medicine as I can, but I also have some genetics modules. So I'm looking for a journal that covers the side of biology on the other end of the spectrum from ecology etc.
Any ideas? Would Nature cover it do you think?

so essentially it ties the robots abillity to live and reproduce to the inevitable decay of atomic nuclei, therefore acting as limiting factors for potential total mass, depending on A) the amount of nuclear material given to each unit for placement inside daughter nano bots, and B) the half life of each sample and the termination (voltage) point for the coating (different equilibria) of the enzyme like killswitch on the exterior of the robot for the killbot to find.

that's not the same as 0*inf at all

0*inf makes no mathematical sense, so I think it's somewhat fair to call it undefined.

"syntax error" would probably be closer to the mark though.

This is partly true. I recently graduated and now I work as a consultant structural engineer (started about a month ago) at a large international company.

In terms of pure problem solving, uni is a lot more involved. But it's definitely not as simple as "following a code book". Sure there are standards, but you have to know when each one is applicable, and the design stage is waaaay more complicated than anything you do at uni. There's a fuckton of loads that you need to consider and literally hundreds of load combinations, and these structures are fucking huge with shit going everywhere, not like that simple beam and truss crap you analyse (by hand, lulz) at uni.

about the original point, yes, there's a shitload of dumbass students in engineering. It literally blows my mind they make it past first year, let alone to 4th.

I enjoyed your last thread buddy.

Do you know much about stochastic calculus? I think I'm going to fail this unit, I just can't get my head around these shitty and over complicated notes my prof hands out. Know of any well written texts on the subject?

i would honestly say no, it doesn't get harder. well, it does, but not relatively, since you already have 2 years knowledge under your belt.

i thought the biggest jump in difficulty was from highschool to 1st yr eng

jesus if you're going to have a fake ladyfriend atleast make her attractive.

and chaos theory. let's see.

it's a term used to describe a deterministic system. a deterministic system is one where the same set of inputs will give you one output that is the same, everytime. A nondeterministic system will give you different outputs from the same input.

a chaotic system, is a deterministic system where VERY SMALL changes in the input, yield VERY LARGE changes in the output, making them near impossible to predict.

the weather, for example, is chaotic.

wow, you're such a free thinker. I wish my mind was as open and enlightened as yours.

ha ha ha, no. you are just regurgitating the same arguments used in "how to convert your friends to christians" books.

do I think there is a correlation between probability and realization? absolutely I do. only a fool would not.

I never outright said "this is the way it is, I am 100% correct", but it's people like you that constantly froth at the mouth with "herpderpD but YOU CANT PROOF IT hA!@ YOUR RONG!@2" that just grind my gears. And then you come back with shit like "I pity you" and "you're having trouble letting go".

Seriously, I can tell you've never studied a hard science at university from the way you talk and the manner in which you form your arguments. Holding on to "you can't prove it doesn't exist" is such a circular argument and a complete waste of time responding to.

But go ahead, keep your dreams of unicorn semen alive whilst I will continue to live in the world we know, using logic and my experiences to make decisions, and not fairytales and science fiction books that "might exist".

Utter bullshit. here is what happens:

- Company advertises for graduate employment, they need to employ 20 new grads
- Company receive thousands of applications
- HR person sits in his office thinking "fuck this shit"
- HR gets rid of all but 100 applications, based purely on grade and without even looking at them
- Starts to read remaining applications and organises interviews, assessment centres, etc.

I agree that if you get past the initial culling stage, grades do not mean much, but you're only kidding yourself if you think you'll ever work in a respectable company with a barely pass average.

I'm a casual maths/physics fan. pretty smart, reasonable interest, but not smart or interested enough to study pure mathematics or physics.

i study civil/structural engineering, would recommend. definitely math/physics oriented, but it's not finding doing useless shit like proving convergence of a limit, or using mathematical induction to batman

fuck maths

Obviously not going to read the thread, but just my two cents:

Firstly I know nothing of the schematics of the building, but, as a final year civil engineering student, i find it hard to believe a localised impact such as a plane, as well as a localised increase in temperature could cause total failure and collapse of a building.

these skyscrapers have foundations that can go hundreds of meters below ground, and are strictly designed to withstand fires and earthquakes.

also, obviously don't really give enough of a fuck to look into any of it.

this is a bitch of a question OP. not going to do it. but here is some hints

- there's 7 unknowns, the 2 tensions, 2 reaction forces at both B and C, and y
- you can get 6 equations from statics analysis, 2 at each point A, B, C
- the seventh equation you need to find from the geometry.
- solve

cunt of a question really. it'll take a while to work through. goddamn i don't miss this shit

I was raised an atheist

I've always been a skeptic and question things extensively, requiring proper sources, before believing them.
