Ever notice how those that claim there are major racial differences in intelligence also claim their own race is the most intelligent? I'm a practical environmentalist in position and I was for a short time a vegetarian but not because of animal suffering. The environment is important to the long term survival of humanity and meat is an inefficient form of energy transfer that shouldn't be used anymore than it needs to be until there are no more starving people.

Are there any other /sci/entists that in action are much like hippies but without any of the indefensible moral absolutes?

I need some programming advice /sci/

I just finished an introductory course in C (electrical and computer engineering freshman class). I know all of the basic syntax really well and I feel like I have a pretty solid foundation. The problem is I don't know where to go from here, I am not sure where to apply my knowledge to improve my skills. I want a real understanding of C before the end of this summer, before my next class.

Any suggestions on what to do?

The episode of TNG where the Enterprise comes across a planet of unaware drug addicts. Picard refuses to tell them that their neigboring planet is pumping them full of drugs, drugs that the addict planet thinks is a cure for a disease, but the disease is just the withdrawal symptoms. Instead, Picard retracts his offer to fix their aging transport craft. The people of the addicted planet think Picard is an evil sumbitch that has doomed them all, but in reality Picard has saved them all while maintaining the prime directive.

Then there was the episode where literally the perfect woman fell in love with Picard but Picard let her go to save millions of people from endless war.

Picard is the best captain. He makes the hard decisions, walking the line between morality and the rules.
