I've seen some relativity in E&M and would like to learn more, differential geometry and all.

How do I remedy this? I secure an A throughout the semester but seem to always bomb the finals, bumping me down to an A-. Does this mean I'm not really retaining anything or can I chalk this up to finals anxiety. If it's the latter, how do you remedy it?

Is listening to music a good thing while studying? I've always thought that it's distracting. What is some good music to listen to while memorizing stuff?

Hi, I hope this is the right place for this thread!

So, throughout most of highschool I was pretty depressed. I started university 4 years ago when I was 16 and it managed to distract from the depression somewhat. Last year it hit really bad and I tried taking my own life. Long story short, I messed up, got help, turns out I was transgender and the entire past year has been me fixing that.

Now I'm at the point where I'm ready to fix the other areas of my life. I was really unhappy with the course I was doing previously and I don't have any intention of finishing it despite having only one semester left. There's honestly no area that interests me but I would rather go into academia than labor.

Finally we get to my question. Now, I did pretty bad with math in highschool but thinking back on it that was largely due to my depression. I got a D in the highest level maths and, while I studied applied mathematics, I didn't take the exam. My question is, what is mathematics like in university and what skill level will I need to do it? What does a typical course involve? Is 21 too late to start? I'm just looking for any kind of info to help with this decision.

Thank you and sorry again if this is the wrong place!

At the moment I've been offered places already at a few universities to study mathematics. While I thoroughly enjoyed maths in school and comfortably aced my exams, we didn't really do a lot (read: any) rigorous / rich problems. I should also add that I never really went out of my way to expose myself to rich problems outside of school either.

So basically the only experiences I have with mathematics are the kind of plug and chug stuff right up to the highest level of HS math. Do you think I will still enjoy mathematics at university or is it so different a subject at the tertiary level that I probably wouldn't get any of the same enjoyment out of studying it at university that I got out of learning about it at school?
