You're a retard if you think IQ has a good correlation to intelligence. In reality there are a lot of better indicators of intelligence.

For example did you know that being wealthy is far more correlated with high intelligence than IQ? Degrees in STEM, having a stable family and workaholicism are all more correlated with high intelligence than IQ.

I think it's time for people to stop IQ since dumb people think it's the end-all perfect indicator of intelligence instead of just some rudimentary tool with a weak link that was originally designed to find out how mentally challenged people with mental disabilities are. And NOT to measure intelligence like many people today use it for.

You're the kind of guy that would say that anyone that doesn't answer "9" in pic-related is retarded.

Real IQ tests require 0 memory skills.

You're most likely thinking of "IQ tests" like pic related that ask completely irrelevant questions.

If you know from experimental data that you need to have 3 and all other variables are known to be 1+1 then you can determine that whatever is next should be a 1 in theory.

This is indeed how physics work and there is nothing wrong with that. Meanwhile you have logic of induction like pic-related in mathematics.

I can make a near unlimited amounts of mathematical models that predicts what comes after 7 in my image. Doesn't mean they are actually the correct one.

The quark model is similar. It's very likely quarks don't exist and are merely a mathematical tool just like virtual particles. I am pointing it out because too many new students assume that quarks are actually real like protons and electrons instead of realizing it's pure math with 0 real backing outside of the predictions.

>predictions

Just because a model makes accurate predictions doesn't mean they are actually correct. Proof by induction and all that.

For example quantum mechanics can be predicted by copenhagen interpretation, pilot-wave and many worlds.

All three have different mathematics and theory behind it yet they make the same predictions about the universe. It's only possible for one or none of them the be right.

Quarks are in a similar position right now but without a rival theory. There is no hard evidence for their existence and they are only in use because of the handy math that people want to push because it helps other shaky theories.

Yet everyone and their mum acts like quarks are completely confirmed and real while there has been 0 and will forever be 0 evidence against them due to their own theory. This is borderline not even science anymore since it isn't verifiable by experimentation.

CS is basically math++, and a CS graduate is considered élite, capable of mastering in 1 year what math graduates do in 2 years. Deal with it!
World's élite universities (e.g. MIT, Princeton) will tell you right away that as their CS student you are considered the best group they have and that math students go slower than you, and increase your load to crazy levels As a CS student, you are expected to master (continuous) calculus, discrete calculus (discrete math proofs, hypercubes for parallel algorithms), optimization (machine/deep learning, compilers), category theory (functional programming), logic (up to automated proofs, i.e. including set theory), differential equations, topology (computational geometry, distributed algorithms), probability and statistics (reinforcement learning, queueing), number theory (cryptography), graph theory (almost everywhere)... There is no functional analysis needed yet, but it's heavily used for PhD degrees anyway. You need to know all this down to the level of proving theorems if you want to achieve anything in CS.

I have a degree in mathematics and I still think mathematics is boring and useless. There is math which is useful in physics, engineering, statistics, operations research, computing, etc. but that math is now mostly done outside math departments; math departments instead focus on abstract nonsense.

Mathematics comes from the Greek word μάθημα meaning knowledge, or that which is learned. This seems arrogant, suggesting that maths is the only subject worth learning. It could also be intimidating because it suggests that math is an all-encompassing subject, so people will think it is hard, or that if they are bad at math then they are not very smart. They might also think that they have to know Ancient Greek to study math.
Renaming math could make the name more accurate or less intimidating, thereby encouraging students to study math. It would also be helpful if the math studied by mathematicians had a different name from computational-style K-12 math so as not to have the negative association.
I suggest one of the following names:
numerical philosophy
a priori philosophy
numbercraft
numberwang
reasoncraft
logic
Some people might be incredulous that changing the name would change people's opinions on math, but renaming recursion theory to computability theory helped recursion theories get more grant money, and renaming "Christmas trees" to "holiday trees" let Americans attract the best immigrants from non-Christian countries.

IQ tests are shit because the logic is biased and doesn't account for unorthodox solutions and patterns that are even more complex than the maker of said test anticipated.

There are literally people out there that are too smart to have a high IQ score.

ive never really "got" weed. it isnt fun to me. i did shitloads of acid but got bored and dont anymore. stimulants are cool to get work done and/or jerk off but im using them less. i was a functioning alcoholic during my masters to the point of WDs if i quit, skipping class to drink, drinking at uni. started doing opiates instead after graduating with a 4.0. im addicted enough ill start throwing up and full body pains and want to kill myself if i stop. i have a 3.9 phd gpa so far. ive also had chronic insomnia and let 1 little bit of benzo to sleep turn into bartardation. ill lose like half my supply and be like wtf and barely remember anything. i think im too deep to CT benzos now. trying to taper so hard. they arent really even fun to me. opiates though, i... i need to quit i think but i dont want to. i used to use heroin and stopped at least.

May be more of a /biz/ topic, but:

A posted here a couple days ago about killing time in a community college to soak up that dank free fafsa knowledge before jumping into debt and I came across an interesting thought.

I'm coincidentally about 2-3 potential terms away from completing a "certificate of Computer Information Systems" with an option of a focus on network administration..

What would you recommend I do? Stay and burn through fafsa for a little longer to potentially get a comfy job while at uni, or just transfer outta there and not worry about some phony certificate?
