Can someone who is well versed in Quantum Mechanics explain the concepts of the uncertainty principle? We have one in Fourier Analysis that states that either the Fourier Transform of a function or the function itself can be well localized, but not both. Both seem to come from the same proof.

If you cannot know both the velocity and the position of a particle, could you not verify both separately, with one or a few intermittent samples and then look for some sort of correlation such that you could get a good approximation of the velocity and position?

I have a vague notion that the reason this isn't possible???, is because of the light used to observe the particle would cause upsets in the other realm you would want to look at. However, we should know enough about light and the physics behind it such that we could predict how the light would affect it and then approximate that?
