This is sort of true, powerful telescopes don't really achieve much beyond general process advancement. Instead we should build:
>The SMUG MACHINE
properties:
>seats one occupant
>about the size of a large van or car
>solar powered
>flies indefinitely via neutral buoyancy
>compact ISS style life support and nutrient bio-reactor
>no windows, just cameras and an AR headset connected to global-hyper-meta-net
>on board medical synthesis keeps occupant healthy and long lived
and the coup de grace, a Neuralink style BCI that elicits whatever state of satisfaction the occupant desires.
the SMUG MACHINE is almost entirely independent of ground based infrastructure. The life support and nutrient devices keep the occupant fed and healthy by recycling waste, supplies only needing to be topped up every few weeks.
The occupant does not worry about natural disaster, geopolitical boundary or anything they cannot gently glide away from. They just hover, SMUGLY.
with the BCI, the occupant feels like they just graduated college. They feel like they just started a new family in a pleasant rural town in a first world country. Whatever their personal definition of attainment is, the BCI can replicate it.
The remaining ground-dwellers in the hyper-slums shake their fists at the mass of silent, hovering entities in the skies above them. Meanwhile the occupants exists in a dreamlike floating world, satisfied, stable, and sustainable for as long as the machine exists.
It hovers. It is SMUG.
