When the brain is severed, or damaged, remaining parts may perform new fucntions, to take up the slack.

In AHS, the brain is cut in half, symetrically. Each part is isolated from another. Each part thinks that the other has been removed, so it beings to take on responsibilities of a whole brain. However, there are now two, independent brains, each with a seperate consciousness.

One consciouness, "A", inhabits one of the halfs, the "B" is in the other half. Both Halfs function equually. Eventually, one of the halfs will be dominate. This will arise as the "person", however the other half is still there, and will fight "the person" for control. Usually, leading to the death.
