To answer your post OP, only do medicine if you really want to, because its a lot of fucking effort.
As for squeamishness, you'll get over that pretty quickly, just don't be the guy that faints in dissection.

If its underpayed in your country, either go private, or take exams for another country later.

You set up a system, you stick by your rules. If foriegners are doing it better, your students are obviously doing something wrong.
