I meet my needs with significantly less than 10k annually. Happiness is like fearfulness. They both are transitory emotions which can and often do lead us astray.

One of the interesting things is that happiness makes you less likely to change circumstances. You know what's happy? A frog in a pot. You know what's dead? A frog which has been slow boiled.

Regarding the experience of consciousness, yes. Regarding the demonstration of consciousness? No.
While at this point in technological development, we can not directly measure another's consciousness (and an entanglement-based theory of free will would indicate that we can not directly observe consciousness without altering it or decohering it entirely) this is not necessarily the permanent and universal state of affairs.

A theory of consciousness like that put forward by Paola Zizzi suggest the possibility of directly measuring the probable state of a conscious by non-projective measurements.
