Let's discuss this a bit, /sci/
Is there known semi-practical (think doesn't take raping the kardashev scale or several billion years) method by which to alter Venus' albedo?
Anything, chemical based or cloud seeding, that could possibly react in some way with the atmosphere and make it reflect more light, thus hopefully having the effect of warding off some heat which is ultimately the main enemy in working with that planet.

>I'm surprised you haven't mentioned Hellas Planitia as a good location to reduce the problems of colonising Mars.
>It's got nearly double the normal atmospheric pressure.
I'm not sure that would actually help much. Double a small amount is still pretty small, and compressing the air before use isn't that hard. It'd probably be better to pick the site to get buried water ice or something.

>You could literally have an open deck, as long as you're using oxygen tanks, you're roughly 55km up
Yeah, I know the temp&press are fine, it's the corrosion that bothers me.

>avoiding clouds
I don't think that's actually possible. Most photos of Venus suggest the clouds are basically everywhere, and a areostat outpost would be far from manoeuvrable. Also, the wind speeds are pretty damn fast, and I have no idea how consistent they are.

>have some kind of acid-proof laminate on everything and everyone.
That's the ceramic coating I was talking about. I really doubt you could go outside without something at least as bulky as a spacesuit. Plus the maintenance would be HELL.

>My one concern about the night though is that it's 58.375 days long, the only obvious way I can think of to store power for so long is to store compressed hydrogen and burn it for energy.
I'd suggest a nuclear reactor. It'd avoid the issues of sulphuric acid eating the solar panels, provide reliable continuous power for the life of the outpost, and isn't completely outrageous in terms of mass budget.

>some sort of armoured vehicle capable of ascent and descent to collect any resources from the ground,
Nope.
That's just not gonna happen.
