What's the harm in dreaming? Especially on weekends?

I'd expect everyone knows that ftl is theoretically impossible, but getting in such a hissy fit over people wanting to dream?

I'm guessing you're too new to remember the threads we've had about scientific /v/idya?

Also, we have had many threads about scientifically plausible sci-fi books, films, tv-series and anime.

And the Official /sci/ Guide has the section
http://sites.google.com/site/scienceandmathguide/dashboard2/science-related-procrastination#TOC-Scie
nce-Fiction
with a list of recommended reading.

In my mind, sci-fi presents you with possibilities you might have been unaware of. And good hard sci-fi is usually based on firm scientific principles, and still manages to present you with possibilities you might not have been aware of.

In my opinion, sci-fi as 'just' entertainment is certainly preferable to some [insert a current pre-laughed comedy with religious undertones or reality-tv series with voyeuristic undertones].

Consider it like this, with fission or fusion you convert perhaps around one or two percent of the fuel mass to energy.

When a particle and it's anti-particle meet, both will be converted 100% into energy.

While using this reaction in an engine would certainly suffer a lot of losses from non-reacted particles and useless radiation, you can still get a lot more energy per fuel mass.

There have been other ways to use this that have been proposed, like using AM as a catalyst in a fusion reactor/engine.
