Renaissances happen during times of economic growth (usually). This is because The Man who does not worry about putting food on the table for his family either doesn't have one or makes plenty of money for it to be a latter concern. This allows The Man and his children to become Scientists and Artists, each of equal importance to the growth of society.

Now, instead of OP's ignorant and narrow-minded (though well-meant) idea, each Man should aspire to be the Artist or Scientist that they have the potential to be so that if there comes a time where they do not have to struggle day in and day out to support themselves and their families they can be the Artist and/or Scientist they aspire to be.
