So I have a few questions for an RPG backstory I'm writing.

I know the universe is expanding faster and faster, in fact faster than light once you go out far enough, but where is the "breaking point" between what's reachable and what's not? How far could a ship sent out a few thousand years from now reach, travelling close to the speed of light?

More importantly, how far could the progenitor race have made it a billion and a half years ago? I already have them settling in the Local Group of galaxies, but could they have made it farther?

In the setting both wormholes and alcubierre warp drives are a thing to technically go faster than light, but they can only be used to reach point that have already been settled by STL ships.

We, or something we could become, could escape the Sun getting hotter. We could even survive it's death, either huddling round its dying warmth or setting out to new stars. But once every last bit of hydrogen has been fused, once the last stellar husks cool down to background, what will happen to whatever intelligence we may have become? As they spend the eons clinging to life, seeking out smaller and smaller variations in temperature to suck the energy out of, what will happen?

That kind of scares me, even if it is so far away. That no matter how hard we try, in the end trillions of years of intelligence may end up dying a slow, cold, lonely death. It's why I hope that there's is some way to break our current understanding of the laws of the universe, some way to suck new energy out of nothing.

I recall Neil Degrasse Tyson saying that their are more stars in our galaxy then their atoms in the universe. Is this correct? Watch how he uses the words galaxy and universe.

Hi, I believe you made a typing error. It seems you accidentally supplemented EDISON for TESLA. I can understand why you may have made this mistake, however, with further knowledge of the history of these men, you may find Edison to be despicable, deceptive, arrogant trash.

Thanks

/sci/!

What are your favorite combinations of nootropics?

I personally have been taking one 300 mg tablet of Pramiracetam and one 300 mg tablet of Alpha GPC per day with breakfast for the past couple of months.
To be honest I haven't really been feeling that much change in my memory or cognition... I'm almost out of my bottles (about a week left) and I was thinking of renewing my purchase but I thought I might ask the board for some suggestions before I buy the same type. Possibly I might have bought some shitty quality Pramiracetam? (I purchased it from this link: http://www.biogenesis-antiaging.com/product_info.php?products_id=151))
But if not I'm open to suggestions of what I should buy next/what dosages I should take.

Thanks!

Lurk moar, it's never enough.
You Tube and Wiki actually have some good stuff out there. Lurk to peak you interest.
Find books in the references to get the meat of it.

My suggested readings:
Cosmos -Carl Sagan
Pale Blue Dot -Carl Sagan
In Search of Schrödinger's Cat -John Gribbin
A Short History of Nearly Everything -Bill Bryson
A Brief History of Time -Stephen Hawking
Ideas That Matter -A.C. Grayling
The God Delusion - Richard Dawkins

Any other philosophy book you can pick up. (Fun to play with the ideas and see which ones you like, helps define you.)

If you like the cosmology books, there are many more.
If you like Dawkins' writing style his works on evolutionary biology are nice as well.

If you are interested in the possible future of humanity, "The Singularity Is Near" - Ray Kurzweil, is entertaining.

At some point, if not already, you are going to have a moment when your level of understanding allows you to observe something in life and connect dots in your mind until you are moved to tears. At that point you will never want to stop learning.
Always seek the next mindgasm.
