Yes, they require symmetry arguments and units (if need be). I already mentioned this.
Not even math can be proven from math? You do realize that right? You know that everything is esentially based of ZFC set theory (maybe with the axiom of choice). But that shit cannot be mathematically proven, or even proven consistiant within itself.

Physics is on the same par with math, in that it tires to axiomize itself to as many irreducables as possible. Currently, those axioms are symmetery, and units, nothing more. All we need to do is specify a symmetery of a system, and the units, and we are able to derive the physics. This is very very very far from the huge number of assumptions engineers make.
