If someone wants to go into Engineering R&D, which of the following best benefits humanity:

>Renewable Energy Tech research i.e. clean energy, alternative energy sources, electric transport, clean cities
Benefit geared more towards later generations/humanity as a whole

>Biomedical Engineering research i.e. medical devices, prosthesis, artificial organs
More of an immediate benefit on a smaller scale, focused on individuals

Is a PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science best if someone wants to work on developing robotics and AI? Will Electrical Engineers work more on automation and efficiency while CS/Programmers work on the 'brain'? Do Mechanical Engineers work on the 'body'? How is it actually split?
