Music is not magical. It's just a way of hijacking our brains to put us in certain moods and cause the release of rewarding chemicals.

It works because when we hear a beat a part of our brain thinks we're walking/running at that speed, and because before language took over, our non-verbal vocal communication (used mostly to convey emotional states/group calls (to affect other's emotional states)) was based on intervals and relative pitch.

One huge problem with africa is the lack of a traditional moral philosophy based on the golden rule.

Everybody looks out for #1, polygamy is insanely common (which in turn makes males agressive and non-cooperative, destroying the chances of civilisation), the whole culture just celebrates aggression, non-cooperation and simply dominating other people.

Unless there is a change, civilisation will be simply impossible, no matter what sort of economic opportunities come their way.
