1) The center of the Earth-Sun or Moon-Sun system isn't the Sun, so the Moon couldn't "circle the sun" to begin with.
2) The orbit of the Earth isn't circular
3) The period of the Moon around the Earth doesn't divide evenly into the period of the Earth, so the Moon isn't even in the same place after one year.
4) Because the Moon circles the earth while it's circling the Sun, it's orbit is all wavy. Pic related.

Hey sci I just thought of a stupid question
can a moon capture its own moon like object?

like are there moons with moons out there? and if so would there be any size requirments for said moon?
pic kinda related, replace sun with planet, earth with first moon, and pic's moon as the second moon
could a endless chain of moons/orbiting objects (theoretically) form or be out there somewere?

or point me somewhere more appropriate if that works for ya
