>all these people saying chemistry/chemical engineering is where job security is

Uh, what? Did I miss something? I'm a senior majoring in chem with plans to go do a PhD in organic or a ChemE masters. I've tirelessly researched the job market for chemists and nearly every source I read says jobs are dwindling for chemists. Fuck, google "chem grad school" and the 5th or so option is "I can't get a job even though I have a PhD".

Seriously though, did something happen recently that improved the job market? Is it on the upswing for industry? I was under the impression companies just fuck and chuck their chemists as they need them. I damn near had a fucking mental break down this summer because I started to realize I would never achieve my goals or dreams in such a shitty job market. You have no idea how happy this would make me if someone could link me somewhere that tells me chem is coming back to relevance.

How you could feel comfortable going to work every day knowing you are contributing to the creation of weapons which will be used to kill is beyond me. As far as I'm concerned, they're paying you to relinquish your morals more than anything else.

Can any organic chem PhDs or grad students enlighten me about job opportunities for o-chem past grad school?

I'm hoping to apply to grad school in the fall, but if it's as bad as I see some forums online posting about, I'm running as far away as I can. I really like chemistry, but I'm not willing to trade no job security ever for a PhD in organic.

>tfw score around 110 on these things

These better not be real.
