So /sci/, tell me. I want to know of your opinions based on the subject of matter at hand. Does the sum of 1+2+3+4...(infinity) really equal -1/12? Or do you believe otherwise? As for myself, I really can't register any intuition for it, and thus I find myself leaning on the latter.

Tell me /sci/, what do you think?

Why is it not more likely that mathematicians need to reexamine their previous assumptions and proofs than that thus obviously false statement is true?

Is this popsci or legit? I showed it to my scientist dad (I'm not underage even though it sounds like it) and the proof for it, and he dismissed it as one of those 1=2 proofs with the argument that infinity can't be treated as though it has finite properties. I feel bamboozled now. Agree/disagree?

Why does <span class="math">\sum\limits_{i=1}^\infinity i = \frac{-1}{2}[/spoiler] ?

I know the mathematical that underlies this result. But still. That shit is retarded. Seems like someone messed up back at T0.
