Sexual reproduction allows positive genetic traits aggregate quickly.

If an asexual species breaks off into two lineages (now distinct species) and each evolves a unique adaptation then they must compete with one another to see which lineage had the best adaptation. However, if a sexual species breaks off into two lineages then and each evolves a unique adaptation then they can still combine to produce a new lineage with both adaptations.

I've never read anything on the evolution and benefits of sexual reproduction. Can someone tell me if I'm right?

Darwin, because he didn't concern himself with pseudo-scientific philosophizing, he traveled the world making his own observations, and he came up with a simplistic explanation of the world's complexity.
