Will we ever reach a point where it becomes impractical to teach students a certain amount of material in a specialty field?

As our understanding of a certain field expands, we're required to teach a student more and more so they can comprehend the material better, spending more time in college studying. We will see a time where it takes 20+ years of just studying in college (not getting acquainted with the field via internship positions) just so they can enter the field as a competent professional?
