I'm far beyond the point where I worry about losing my interest in science, don't you worry sir :)

Why does everyone have a different facial complexion? Why does everyone think differently?
Why are there so many colors, species, planets, stars, protons, electrons, neutrons, etc?

Exactly.

Nothing's wrong with my social skills. I don't engage friends, and am not good at maintaining contact with them. It's a classic trait of introversion. Nothing to write home about; something I'll probably grow out of when I go to college.

You do know that the laws of physics can model every principle of engineering, don't you? Even the most "esoteric" or complex ones.

Physics does all this, and MORE.

Now I don't know what universe you live in, but in my universe we define physics as the study of that universe.

Everything else is detail.

Now, I'll leave.

Considering all the information regarding the global economy's bleak future that's circling the web, considering everything you know about potential applications to society, considering how ornately the pieces have been laid out for you thus far, how the FUCK could you even consider switching majors to philosophy?

I can't believe humans are capable of making such stupid decisions.

Majoring in philosophy would mean essentially ignoring the world around you, which is supposed to be the opposite of how philosophers recommend one behaves.

btw if you guys want to see the government's published information about employment groups / salaries check this out:

http://www.bls.gov/oes/2010/may/chartbook_2010.pdf

Guess I'll go read some of the most recent physics doctoral papers that have come out over the past couple weeks.

God I'm lonely.

Hey..I was just adding onto my earlier point, and you know it.

Sorry if I'm not wanted on this board.

You guys have to admit you are all involved in false advertising..."science & math" my ass..

And nano-science will be a field of the future.

Soon enough, computers will get down to trying to store electromagnetic data on several atom systems.

Soon enough we'll get down to the quantum level.

Thus nano-science is the key to the future.

You do realize that agriculture is and always will be vital to the human species, right?

Math should be ahead of comp sci, seeing as how computer science is nothing more than a single branch of mathematics, coupled with applied physics/electrical engineering principles on a nano-scale. (Really, that's all it is).

I think the consensus seems to point towards physics/engineering/pure math to be the most inaccessible subjects for most people.

Your list is a lot more organized than mine. Engineering obviously is a different sphere of itself.

But I'd move software up a bunch. Software is essentially the nervous system of the computer age, and corresponds to the guiding principles of advanced systems in our era.

Bump petroleum engineering down a couple pegs (they're just monkeys drilling for oil; not actually doing anything involved with the future).

Move economics down at least...

> I can remain extremely creative and intuitive when I study logical sciences

You can't remain creative and intuitive unless you study logical sciences?

What do you mean by "logical" sciences?

I assume your intuition was meaning to gear towards using the word "quantitative" instead. All fields of science follow a general process of logic, in some sense. But logic hardly encapsulates the scope of what it means to do science, and understand the process.

If you want to do science, then do it.

Don't waste anyone's time talking about how creative you'll be while you do it, or how much it'll benefit society.

It's obvious to anyone with half a brain that you're trying to make a cradle for yourself out the all the words you say.

Finance? It's just anything that has to do with money, or the concept of intermediary (actually nowadays rather tertiary) exchange of theoretic elements each constituting some type of value to either certain groups, institutions, or (generally) the entire international monetary systems.

Generally speaking, the global financial system consists of several important banks, investment groups, lending agencies, futures/stock/forex traders, traders of all kinds, and organizations such as the IMF, world bank, etc.

All the patterns and principles behind the actual set of events involved with trading certain stocks, predicting which economics/currencies will do well, finding good ideas / marketing plans, can be modeled with mathematics, simply because mathematics is the natural language of all natural systems.

You think atoms are cool, don't you?
But I bet you wouldn't like going near dog shit. But dog shit's made of atoms?

The problem is you need to acknowledge the difference between the beauty of abstract, generally sustained principles and specific, mindless areas of application.

Providing a summary for each college? I never detailed any colleges; I told you my list was generalizing to start with.

Besides, what would be the point of doing that when everyone here's free to go to any college's website they wish, or google phd program ranking systems and reviews?

It's always a stupid idea to take one person's word as answer to a question which requires multiple sources of inter-validating information.
Just pay attention to everything you read, and we won't have to argue.

Well you're just getting worried over semantics.

Mathematical finance you say?

The mathematics behind the finance has nothing to do with finance as a concept in and of itself.

Finance is a way for consumers to indulge in mindless sensations and material possessions.

Never confuse a puppet with its strings.

And let me assure you that I'm far more "left-brained" than you think.

My favorite classes in high school were always English.

On second thought, I did make a mistake with English. I'd raise that up to good.
