Current progress, nope no A.I. capable enough for such stuff that does it flawlessly; not now, most likely in the future. But since researches and topics about Machine Learning and Neural Networks are getting more attraction and improvements as time passes, its alot more easier to implement small stuff that makes up an A.I. than before. If you want to get more into A.I. start doing some ML/Deep Learning and Neural Networks then combine all those functionality to make a system/A.I.

True, it all goes to the amount of work/effort you put into, than just simply putting up work on it. Might also need to consider, if you are doing it properly/correctly; since putting up effort on something that doesn't come into fruition isn't that much rewarding, although you gain experience from it, but since you are aiming for something, then the bar gets higher everytime.

You can't be blamed for what happened, unless you know the reason for the outcome and you wanted to be agro-ed upon. You tried, but ended up failing. There are probably alot of conditions that are not met to be able to succeed. Blame yourself, think deeply about it, and try again. Life doesn't end with just a single failure, it ends if you give up and die.

Also aren't they planning for a Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment in 2020? Maybe that is something more important to look forward to.

Mining is already a back-breaker on Earth, considering Lunar Gravity do you realize the gazillion flaws which could occur? The granules could fuck up the entire mechanics of your mining vehicle within seconds.

The again the mission is about prospecting, ISRU is not possible right now.
