Obviously, it depends on the strength of the sound wave, among other things.

However, there is a problem assuming that an object can be at 0k. It violates the uncertainty principle to assume that there can be particles that do not vibrate. All particles possess a zero-point energy that cannot be removed.

I'm not sure what would happen but I'm sure an anti-matter black hole is technically possible. After all, black holes can evaporate through virtual anti-particles falling into it. They might even explode when their mass is too small.

Firstly, 0k is unattainable. Secondly, any medium with a sound wave traveling through it cannot, in principle, be at 0k. The sound wave heats it up.

Hmmm, that's a very interesting way to use solar sails. The only question is if it can change the orbit of the asteroids fast enough. It's not going to be very useful if it takes 50 years or more to get the asteroid to move to the orbit we want.

In any case, it's quite absurd to compare deep sea and asteroid mining. The metal would be more valuable in orbit, since we do not need to pay the energy cost of bringing it up.

I was saying that there's a theory that life is required for oxygen to be found on a planet. Not the other way around. Oxygen gas would react with other stuff and vanish if it was not constantly replaced.

>> No.2113286 [View]

Oxygen is rather unstable in its elemental form. It has been proposed that we can be certain that life exists on a planet from a great distance by simply detecting the presence of oxygen gas in the spectrum of the planet.

Even flour can explode.

I suppose the whole of medical research should be upended and revolutionized. But then, people would be screaming "Communist!" Medicine really doesn't obey normal laws of economics. It's really hard to reform it.

Overpopulation is now the minor issue. We need a combination of nuclear power and an energy efficient lifestyle. The current population growth projections no longer lead towards a disastrous zone.

I think inequality of wealth is more of a symptom rather than the disease itself.

For me, I think the Keynesian cure doesn't really work in the US, because too much of the jobs are outsourced and too much of the manufacturing is going on overseas. So, even if the administration does the Keneysian cure in the classic way, boosting the economy with unemployment benefits and infrastructure expansion/replacement rather than the current supply side cures, it still wouldn't work. As the money would just flow out to the countries the US is importing from.

A "white dwarf fragment" or a neutron star fragment would have made much more sense.

Option B and C are likely if it has a high velocity.

A is quite far out, as it has to be moving very, very slowly. Also, it's so massive that the orbits would be totally thrown out of whack. The earth and moon would orbit a common center of gravity.
