yeah, that'd be too simple though. I thought about simply teaching it to put a ball through a mini-basket hoop

yeah dude, i feel kinda bad to be honest but theer's not much i can do and my grade is important. The rats we're given are kept super happy, we get to hold them while in class and have the choice to take them home for the weekend. We make sure they are in healthy weight too. Im not trying to justify our deliberate depravation of water access at all but we're giving them a better ride than the rats at drug research labs or other shit

thanks anon, school provides me with a better source actually, i'm just here for an idea and then i can go look up some stuff along the lines of it. Perhaps i should wait and look up something on my own and THEN bring it here and ask for suggestions, lets see how this goes now though

it's not up to me to choose... my proffesor told us a story about some guy who took the class before that stole all the rats and set them free out in nature. They pretty much are lab-raised rats, and throwing them out in their natural habitat was a death sentence and got eaten by owls or died

now, at the end of the quarter we get to either give it to a shop so they can be bought or sold for feeder i guess or i get to take it home, i'm taking mine home.

Hey /sci/!
I've got myself a Long Evans rat and a "Skinner Box" conditioning chamber this quarter. My final project is to condition my rat (Lorenzo) to do whatever. I've been assigned to look up A.P.A. behavioral research and come up with an experiment I'd like to do.

My guidelines are the following:
*I am not to use any negative reinforcement, so no shocking Lorenzo or anything

*Lorenzo is given 3 minutes of water per day (except Friday/Saturdays) so that he's thirsty thus allowing me to use the water as reinforcer of behavior

*I am to teach it to "bar press" in the skinner box to get water everytime he presses the lever

*Right now we're in the process of shaping the behavior of bar-pressing, he eventually is gonna learn to press the lever 10 times to get one single drink of water per cycle.

I welcome your ideas!! what should i do?!, I thought about taking advantage of their superior auditory system or something like that...

thank you for your time and interest!

also,
inb4 possible negative trolling
