People, even very intelligent people, can be tricked into believing all kinds of things, I'd be hesitant to call it a mental illness when he could very well have been indoctrinated into believing this sort of thing by his mother.

I don't think it'd be a big enough deal to cause relationship problems, either.

My father for instance, is a firm believer in alien visitation to Earth, and is always bringing me nibiru/UFO/alien stuff to look at. I usually just explain why x is unlikely or impossible, we always have a good laugh about it, he knows I don't believe the same things he does, but he likes to hear my perspective anyways.

So just make it clear to your boyfriend that you don't believe this stuff. There's no sense or need to hide how you feel about it.

No, quantum computers are not necessarily more powerful than traditional computers.

The biggest difference is that they are able to better solve certain types of equations.

The biggest impact from them will be in regards to cryptography, as a quantum computer would be able to quickly solve many of the types of encryption we use today.

You may need to go back down a level or two and rebuild a foundation to jump from.

I see it as a little of both.

There are intrinsic properties of the universe that math helps explain, like amounts.

But our math itself is also an entirely human construct.

I would suggest figuring out your 'fluids hw' and writing that engineering communication essay.

Or are you paying all that money to go to school for nothing?

Humans are tool users, our brain naturally considers any 'tool' we use to be an extension of the body.

This includes things like bicycles, or cars. You have a natural affinity for using tools.

So yes. We are naturally intuitive towards it. A sense of balance helps, as well.

When you see a negative sign outside brackets, like so: -(3)

It's the same thing as saying -1(3)

Or -1 x 3

>> No.3769119 [View]

Assume x = 1

(x+2)^2
Becomes
(1+2)^2
Brackets, Exponents, Dvision/Multiplication, Addition/Subtraction
BEDMAS

We do the inside of the brackets first:
(1+2)^2
(3)^2

Now we do exponents
Exponents basically just means the number is multiplying itself.
(3)^2 is the same thing as (3)(3)

Or 3x3.

Watch out for negative signs.

-(3)^2 is different than (-3)^2
The first gives you -9, the second gives you 9.
The first: -(3)(3)
The second: (-3)(-3)

There really wouldn't be many social ramifications...

At best it's a effective as a sexual toy for relieving yourself.

What you are looking for is a Jupiter Brain/Matrioshka Brain.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matrioshka_brain

The best location for something like this is probably a dyson sphere around a star located on the outer rim of a galaxy, or in the halo surrounding the galaxy - where there's less cosmic radiation.

It's never a bad thing to learn.

You shouldn't look down on someone because they've excelled at something that is easy to you.

>> No.3566814 [View]

No. Because Congresscritters use NASA to fund porkbarrel projects in their states.

They have no actual interest in science or space exploration. Nor do they care if the rocket even works. They just want jobs in their district.
