You need to learn the tricks and find ways to implement them when possible. Pinning pieces to other pieces is always a favorite. For example if your rook is attacking a pawn with his king behind it, that pawn cannot attack your pieces period. Obviously be heavier? Why's that, just make it not heavier by using a foam center and a metal shell around the the foam, and then the regular plastic around the edges. If you are worried about the magnetism playing a large role that is obvious, just use a slight magnetism on the number so it only doubles the chance of it landing on that number, so that it's not obvious. Merely doubling the odds should be good enough if you play for long enough.
